I have a torch lamp with halogen bulb that stopped working. I have replaced the bulb and it still doesn't work. Wall outlet is okay. Lamp plug appears to be fine. Any ideas on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You may not like my answer but the wisest thing may be to toss the lamp. These halogen torchire (sp?) lamps were notorious for starting fires when they were first introduced and I think many were recalled and some retailers (or maybe the lamp's manufacturers?) were actually replacing them with safer lamps for free.

I have one that is definitely tippy when placed on carpet and if I actually used it I would likely get a new one that had a fluorescent bulb. I haven't turned mine on for at least a year and I suspect the dust it has gathered would catch fire if I left it on for any length of time.

I definitely agree with Furd! Those things put off a lot of heat as well as use a lot of wattage.
