I have kitchen cabinets from 1969 that are in good shape and I just want to put a coat of polyurethane on them. What is the best cleaner to wipe the cabinets down with to remove the old grease and stuff before I scuff-sand them?

Mineral spirits.It will remove what you want,leave no residue and dry quickly.This is the long accepted product for this use.Try and find the purest you can however mineral spirits labeled as paint thinner will work.Note that this is NOT paint remover.Older names are Varsol and Vondaline.Varsol can still be found but is rare.

It would also be a good idea to wipe the cabinets down after sanding.

If you can find it, VM&P Naphtha is even better - It dries more quickly and leaves absolutely no residue. I use it in my shop for cleaning furniture before refinishing.
