I am helping a friend install anew ceiling fan in his kitchen. The fan has two switches for it, we got the old one down which was just a light and put the fan up which is a hampton bay ceiling fan. I connected according to color black to black green to green etc. When we turn it on only the fan spins and i cant figure out why the lights wont come on for the life of me can anyone out there help me out with this thank you:(

Did you connect either a black with a white stripe or a blue wire to the black power wire? If not the light kit will not have power.
Did you change the fixture box to one rated for fan support? You don't want the fan to fall from the ceiling.

I got the lighting to work i misread the wiring long day probably caused it, but i did not change the fixture box the old one was a fan of the same sort just didnt have the blades anymore so i didnt think it was necessary is it still?

Unless the fixture box is rated for fan support you are counting on 2 small screws to hold up the fan. The screws only thread into the plastic box which is not designed for the extra weight or the movement caused by the fan.
Technically it is also a Code violation.
