I just ordered some parts for a Homelite string trimmer...HLT16...UT-20585C...30cc. When I received the parts, the ring appeared to be wrong. The original ring was 0.060 in. thick and the new one is 0.023 in. thick. I got the part number off of Milacalawn. It is part number 03179. Isn't this way to thin to use.
This is the first time I've run into this situation.

Definitely not right. As you suspect, a .023" ring is way too thin to be used in place of a .060 ring. It won't work and will ruin the piston ring lands at the very least if used. I wonder if there were different pistons used in that unit and maybe you got a ring for an alternate piston?
