Well, it must of course be the proper color to mathch the pipes below... Just kidding...

If you are on a septic system, a disposal is not recommended.

When purchasing, look at your wallet first, then that will decide which disposal you are able to put in. ISE is my favorite brand. I would not get anything less than a badger 5 and even that one will not last long. Just look at the features, The big difference between disposals is the motor size, warranty, and swithing options.

the new evolution from ise is the best thing since sliced bread as far as disposals go. it has a dual gring chanber and stailess steel blades and plates. and is 5 times quiter than the badger 5. but as plumingods mentioned look at your wallet first unless that is not a problem

I've been hearing good things about the ISE Evolution too and plan to put one in my house some time soon. According to the ISE web site, you can put virtually any foodstuff into one of these - bones, corn cobs, celery -

NOOOOOOO!! do not ever put stringy things like celery in your disposal, it will wrap aroung the shaft and blades causing the disposal to become jammed and is very hard to unjam

Yes, that's great advice in general -

but check out ISE's info on the Evolution Excel model and what you can/can't put in it:

InSinkErator - Garbage Disposers, Garbage Disposals, Instant Hot Water Dispensers (http://www.insinkerator.com/disposers/dosndonts.shtml)
