I would like to install a whole house house humidifier for these very dry NC winters (1500 sq. ft. house). I am fine with a regular maintenance schedule so this does not play into my decision for which one to get. I have one of those split AC/heat pump units that sit right outside my crawlspace. A few questions I could really use help with:

1. Can I still get one of those in line ductwork humidifiers?

2. Which style is best for my set-up?

3. Any brand and model suggestions?

I'm not clear on what you got.

You said you had a split system, then you said you have a unit outside.

You have a air handler in the crawl space? if so, does it freeze down there?

By split system I just meant there is the AC/heat pump unit that sits outside. Yes, the air handler is in the crawl space and it does not seem to reach freezing in the crawl space.
