We have a nice evergreen type bush that we've nurtured into a round shaped 'ball' but with the latest heavey snowfall, we noticed that a sizeable branch split off from the trunk. Its still connected to the main, but I would like to save, if possible, the whole bush.
Ive since tied the broken section up to the main trunk, but would like to see if this can be saved... Is there a way to graft/pack the split to have it grow together again...??
My wife has the 'green' touch...but I/we would like to save this bush if possible.
Any ideas or suggestions on how to do this....
Any help would be appreciated.
TIA

if some of the bark and inner growing layer are still together you might be able to save is by using a stainless bolt or screw to hold it together and covering the wound with something to keep out insects some type of bracing will be necessary to prevent the wind from reinjuring the limb.

Use a bolt drill a hole, and put washers on it. You have to be a little careful covering the wound, this cover can also make a damp dark home for insects. That is why you rarely see trees painted or tared where a limb has been cut off the way you did 20-30 years ago.
With all that said.......... It really is the perfect time to redo the landscaping and, if you have to have a ball, get a plant that grows in that shape. This limb/plant is always going to be weak.
Good luck.
