I have been trying to fix my leaky bathroom faucet, but my first stumbling block was a stripped screw, that i finally managed to get removed. I then removed the crystal faucet handle and the adjusting ring. But now i cannot seem to remove the cap. It is the chrome nicely finished part, that seems to just need to be turned (i'm guessing counter clockwise), but i can't get it to budge and am afraid of damaging it. Any suggestions. I am pretty sure the faucet is a generic delta single handle crystal faucet.

Welcome to the forums! Before you go too far, just some plumbing 101. Did you turn off the supply valves under the sink? OK, that's good. Where was it leaking, from the spout, around the bottom, etc.? You are right that the domed collar must be removed. In order to do that you may need a pair of channel lock pliers. To keep from scratching up the finish, wrap the knurled area with electrical tape (3 or 4 rounds), then try to undo it with the pliers. Not too much squeezing. You don't want to deform the ring, nor do you want to cut through the tape and scratch it.
I think you will be able to do it with minimal pressure, though. Let us know what happens, and if we can help further. Oh, yeah, have you bought a repair kit for the Delta faucet, yet? I wouldn't take it apart without a means of fixing it on hand.

I tried for many hours of effort to remove the dome, with no luck, using the tape was a great method to not damage, but still it wouldn't budge. I decided in the end to replace the faucet, and did so already. It took far less effort to replace than repair this one. Even with the facuet out, and being able to access the dome much better, it still will not budge. Sometimes a replacement is more time effective, and it wasn't that expensive to do so. Thanks for the help.

Glad you bit the bullet and changed out the entire faucet assembly. Yes, sometimes it makes sense to to just that, rather than to try to fix things that don't want to be fixed. Come on back if we can help further.

Hi A little late but the solution is heat. How do I know you ask? Well I've broken my share, tubs and sinks. Put old ones in a vice and still couldn't get it off. Stumbled on heat apply with a torch or heat gun a even a hair dryer. Takes very little heat.
Good Luck Woodbutcher
