I am having issues with my upstairs toilet. When I flush it, the water won't go down. Only way it will go down is if I flush it and then flush it again halfway through the first flush. I tried a heavy duty plunger and even snaked it without any luck.

If I was to try muratic acid, would that eat away the wax ring when you flush it down? Do you think I need to use the muratic acid or is it something else? My other two toilets in my house work just fine so I am really stumped! Thanks for the help!

I have the same problem with my upstairs toilet the one downstairs works just fine. I even installed a new rebuild kit and even installed a new wax ring and it's still doing the same thing.

NEVER PUT MURIATIC ACID IN ANY DRAIN AND NEVER USE DRAIN OPENER IN A TOILET!

Muriatic acid is hydrocloric acid which is extremely dangerous and all harsh chemicals in a toilet can and will cause all kinds of problems if the toilet overflows with them in it or a non flushing toilet has water in the bowl that is a mix of chemical and water.Splashing can get acid on you and many other things.Mixing products into this without knowing it can cause dangerous fumes.Toilets have so much water in them it dilutes the product too much to do any good.

If a toilet has been cleared within the toilet itself beyond the toilet is a 3 or 4 inch pipe so if you know the toilet is open it's not a draining issue. That said you do need confirmation that it isn't the toilet and that could require pulling it as snakes do not always clear a toilet completely.(Toys and such fall in and the snake goes right by them sometimes etc.) Also clogged or partial clogged vents can cause these issues so you also need to determine if they are clogged or not.Obviously this requires a trip to the roof.Generally you can run a garden hose water off down the vent and push clogs from leaves etc through.

Hi, Hold The handle down when you flush. If that cures the problem replace and adjust the flapper. If you have a solid flapper with a float on the chain move the float toward the flapper( these are used for some low flow toilets.)
I would not use acid to clear a drain but I do use muratic acid to remove hard water build up in toilets. I pour a bucket of water in the bowl to lower the level. I then pour about a half gallon of acid down the overflow in the tank and let it set for about 45 minutes then flush the toilet. This system will remove lime in the rim and trapway where you never will get a wire in. I've never lost a wax ring. Like the previous post said you have to be carefull

It could be due to an obstruction in the toilet or due to poor venting. You can check the venting by removing the toilet and proping it up on a couple blocks over the flange. If you try flushing it and still have the same problem you know it is something stuck in the toilet.

You might try snaking the drain from the upstairs toilet and down to the main drain line. Worked for me twice. Once for a toy and another time for ladies stuff. 38' small snake runs about $35.
