I have a concrete block wall 3' high, and I need to cut out a section about 4-5 feet wide so I can drive a garden tractor thru it.

What would be the best way to cut this... should I just rent a rotary saw with a diamond blade and make sure I'm cutting thru the hollow areas of the block?

rent a saw with the diamond blade and don't worry about the hollows and use a crayon or lumber marker so the line doesn't wash off. you might want to consider using a 1x4 and tapconing it to the wall for a straight edge to help with the cut for a good straight line. i would cut it about 3-in wider on each side and frame in and pour concrete on each edge to reinforce the blocks after they dry.
that also will give you a better looking cut.
