I had a problem before with the outside not running...condensor and fan...replaced the contactor and relay and finally got the unit running....now I noticed that the heatpump is not satisfying the tstat...air coming out of the vents seems cold and the temp actually drops till the aux heat kicks in......went outside and the compressor was not running but the fan was....turned the system off at the panel and restarted and the compressor started up again but still not satisfying the tstat....

could the unit be out of refrigerent...if so could that have ruined the compressor

Does anyone have anyideas what could be wrong here...any help would be greatly appreciated.

outside unit is a rheem RPKA-018JAZ 10 seer heatpump

thanks in advance,

cybertek

The system could be low on refrigerant, the compressor could be worn out, the pressure switches might be detecting a problem, or your compressor could be overheating, and opening the overtemp switch built into the compressor.
There is no way short of taking system pressures and measuring temperatures to know if the compressor is worn out.
Once you replace the contactor and the compressor still kicks out, you likely have a deeper problem. Time for an expert...
