I'm new to air compressors but this spring I'm planning to redo the trim in my place (baseboard, moulding, casings...) and am looking to get an air compressor and nailer (brad + finisher).

I thought about going the nail set route but I know that'll wind up being a headache.

I don't imagine I'll be using the compressor for much else and I'm also constrained by price somewhat. The other problem is amp draw, if it's too high I'm sure the circuit breaker will trip.

I know the Thomas compressors only draw 6 amps but they are a bit out of my price range.

Any recommendations? Not too loud I hope either. I know, I'm asking a lot!

Senco makes a 1/2 hp compressor which would suit your needs. You should be able to pick it up with a brad gun for under $200. No need for a larger gauge finish gun to do what you want, as long as you get a brad gun with 2" capacity.

Yes, you are kinda asking a lot.

You shouldn't have to worry about amperage on a cheap compressor because they do not normally pump a large volume of air.
The more CFM capacity a compressor has the higher the amp draw.

You may want to consider spending a bit more money to get at least a name brand unit you will be able to get parts for.

Here (http://forum.doityourself.com/tools-sharpening-power-machinery/131654-air-compressor-information.html#post431697) is some compressor info.

Orange big box has a compressor adequate for what your needs are PLUS 3 nailers for under $300. Good deal. It is Porter Cable, I believe.
