I am in the planning stages of a courtyard area ( similar to those in New Orleans ) and an adjacent outdoor kitchen. I would like to build a 5 to 6 foot wall that will abutt the back side of my house and be a three sided structure with large double doors on the three walls. I know that I will need a footer for the walls and plan to pour a concrete foundation under the kitchen area, but I am undecided about the courtyard area. I would like to have some type of nice stone flooring but I'm undecided about how well a packed base will hold up. The kitchen area will have a free standing roof, but I was planning on leaving the courtyard area open or maybe put up a pergola. Any pro's or con's about concrete with some type of tiling or the packed base with stone flooring.:thinker:

It sounds like a nice area, but what exactly is your question?
