Hello, I have a ducane heat pump model #2HP13L30P-1B. It was installed on 12-22-07. It runs on heat but only cold air comes out the vents and the outside heat pump never comes on. I can turn on the emergency heat and it runs fine staying at temp where it set at. I took of the panle on the heat pump and i see a green light and a red light on so i assume it's getting electric to it. I was told it could be the circuit board, I dont know nothing about them. The installer was a little shady so i wont call hem back. I called DUCANE and it still has 4 years left on the warrenty for parts & 2 years left on the compressor. Does anybody know what the problem could be i do have a little bit of basic know how if it is minor fix. I would really appreciate any help. It's cold outside and just cant really afford a service person come out because money is really tight right now. TO ANYBODY THAT RESPONDS TO THIS THANK YOU VERY MUTCH IN ADVANCE.

I don't have access to Ducane manuals and such.

But, green light should mean you have 24 volts, green means go.

Red should be a warning/lockout. Most will flash a code to let tech know where to look for trouble.

Have you tried killing power to entire system and restart to see what happens?

Do you have a volt ohm meter and know how to use it?

I turned thermostat to heat on/fan on the heat pump comes on but when i put thermostat to heat on/fan auto the hole system shuts down inside and out. I do have a volt meter but not shure what to check and really how to use it.Yes i reset every breaker in the box wasnt shure witch one it was.

First thing I think is thermostat problem. Run fan 24/7 to get "cheaper" heat pump heat.

Need to open Air handler and loof for low voltage terminal strip.

Terminals:
R
C
Y
W
W1
W2
O
G

W's can be a number of possible designations.

C -R is 24 volt control power.

C - G 24 volts means indoor fan on.
C - Y 24 volts means on comp is on.
C - W 24 volts means elec heat is on.

Could it be the 2 AA batteries in the thermostat, i didnt want to change them and wind up messing something up and having no heat at all.

Battery should be back up if stat has a C or common wire.

If no common stat is batt operated.

Setting will be in EPROM and not be lost.

Stat is a glorified switch.

Heat on/fan on works
Heat on/ fan auto nothing works points to stat not system.
