Need help placing furniture. When you walk in front door the room is L shaped- could use as 1 room or 2 separate rooms. From the front door you will see 2 openings- 1 straight ahead for the kitchen and the opening behind the couch is to small dining area. The 1st pic, I am standing in the open entry way to the kitchen, you are looking at the Front door. 2nd pic. I am at the Front Door showing u the 2 openings.

3rd pic- I am standing in dining area looking toward back of couch. The TV is in the corner that is where the cable hook is. I can put the desk/computer in another room if I need to.

I posted a lengthy response last night, but due to web site connectivity problems, the post did not get posted.

Before beginning, watch the following videos. One is for a more grand foyer, and the other is average with with good basic tips:

How to decorate foyer Video ? 5min.com (http://www.5min.com/Video/How-to-Make-a-Great-First-Impression-With-Your-House-32272554)

How to Decorate a Foyer | Expert Village Videos (http://www.expertvillage.com/video/153500_decorate-foyer.htm)

Picture 1:

1. Huge foyer.

2. More dramatic color needed to differentiate from living area and to make a more bold and welcoming statement.

3. Prime and paint door same color as trim. At some point in the future, replace door with a more attractive door to give a better first impression.

4. Replace fan with a chandelier. Something subdued and dressy casual to complement your decor.

5. The large barren wall by the door could gladly accommodate a large wood display cabinet in a warm tone.

6. The center of the floor could use a large round rug and round foyer table as seen in the above video. Rug should be complementary to area rug in livingroom.

7. Hang long, flowing panels on windows.

8. A couple dressy casual chairs and table between in front of window.

9. Move the chair out of the foyer to join the conversation area in the living room.

10. Move the little round table to a bedroom. It has no place in this area.

Picture 2:

1. Living room furniture is floating around a too small rug. A larger area rug is required to anchor the conversation area.

2. Furniture needs to be pulled together for greater intimacy. Front legs of sofas typically rest on rug.

3. Again, the round table needs to go to a bedroom, where it can better serve as a night table with reading lamp.

4. Complementary wall color and decor need to flow into kitchen and diningroom. Those areas are too white. Watch your clutter on the kitchen counters. Kitchen is visible from foyer.

5. Long, flowing panels on windows.

6. When you purchase a larger area rug, you will want to pull out a bold color for accessories and accents. Bolder color can add a splash of color on sofa and loveseat with pillows and unify the decor. The accent color can be carried into kitchen and dining room to create flow of color scheme.

Picture 3:

1. TV is focal point in the room. It is located in a far corner at the end. If TV were moved up to wall behind the love seat, then the conversation area could be appropriately arranged around the focal point. TV should be placed in an armoire to close off when not in use and to hide electronics.

2. Computer desk is better located in another room of the home.

3. With TV and desk out of the area at end of room, there are options for filling the area. A cabinet style bar on wall where desk is located and area to serve as a lounge area with low table and chairs. Table could be used for cards, games, etc. And, it might come in handy for overflow dining when entertaining more folks than the diningroom can accommodate. Area could be another seating area with a chaise or chair with ottoman and another chair with small table between. Or, wall where computer is located could accommodate a bookcase, and area could accommodate a library table and chairs.

4. Long, flowing panels on walls in color same as trim or color similar to wall paint. Panels should be the same in living room as in foyer.

5. There is a lamp, but end tables are not visible. Most tend to prefer end tables and lamps. Sometimes it's not possible when furniture is arranged out in the middle of the floor. Then, something tall is placed on the end table, like a tall candle or vase and a couple colorful accessories to complement color scheme.

6. View of foyer from livingroom further affirms the need to go with a more dramatic color there.

7. Table in front of foyer is two small for the area.

8. Good job with colors so far. Just carry the color scheme through to diningroom and kitchen. Pump the room up with accessories and accents that complement your color scheme. This color(s) will come more easily once you purchase a larger area rug. The rug can inspire the new color for walls in foyer and colors for sofa pillows and other accessories and accents.

There are many informative websites on decorating. One of my favorites is www.hgtv.com (http://www.hgtv.com) Look for articles on color, decorating styles, how to hang pictures, furniture arrangement, focal points, window treatments, etc. At hgtv's www.roomzaar.com (http://www.roomzaar.com) you can view the mostly highly rated rooms to see what the best rooms have to offer. Pay particular attention to wall color, window treatments, displays, furniture arrangement, accessories and accents.
