Walls and Ceilings - Outlet Prepping for Drywall Installers

We gutted our upstairs down to the studs, and rewired the whole works. Being a first time diy'er, I just HAD to connect my electrical circuits to be sure we ran the wiring right.

My question is, can we leave the outlets in the boxes for the drywall installers? Will the little tabs that extend beyond the box be a hassle for them? I was thinking of covering all the outlets with that blue painter's tape. The switches and light fixtures will all be removed, and the switch boxes will also be covered with blue painter's tape.

All circuits will be turned off at the box, and also taped, so they don't inadvertently get turned on while the drywallers are working.

You are keeping busy this weekend:). My drywallers would walk off the job. They roto-zip their electrical boxes and would not work around receptacles and switches. The roto-zip starts in the middle of the box, cuts to the inside edge, jumps to the outside and then follows the outside around the box. They don't measure, cut, and install like the amateurs.

You can ask them. They may also want the wires capped to ensure no one hits the power while they are working.

I agree, even if they were to cut around the box, you want the device ears to be on the outside of the drywall.

Yeah, we'll yank everything out. But at least I know everything works. I'll talk to the drywall contractor and see what he says. There are a lot of wires inside there, and also in the smoke detector boxes.

The deeper you can push the wires into the box the better. Hangers have been known to knick wires every now and then:eek:
