I was away for a month and while away the alarm was going off all the time according to a neighbor. My friend came arround and disconected the battery and this allowed for the alarm to be switched off.
I'm back and when I connect the battery the panel goes blank and when it is not connected the panel beeps all the time and shows 3 or 4 different zone numbers in sequence but seemingly unrelated to any alarms.
Please help!!

The zone number display is either showing open zones, or showing wireless transmitters with a low battery.
If your alarm was shut off simply by disconnecting the battery, then it also wasn't getting AC power.
You are going to have to be a bit more specific with what is showing on your keypad.

The battery is disconected now. The zones (3 total flash in sequence - all are wireless). When I hook the disconnected battery up the keyboards (there are two) screens go blank.
I though this might be caused by a short but couldn't find one.
Thanks

A not uncommon failure mode for batteries is to fail in an internal short. You need a new battery.
Check those zones to see if they are open. If not, those transmitters may need individual batteries as well.

OK. Figured it out. The 9v conectors on the 3 smoke detectors were a bit loose so I gave them a tweek and that has stopped the bat warning.
