The heater works but the fan will not come on. We have a Nordyne heater (heatpump). What should we check first.

Are you talking about the evaporator fan or the condenser fan.
Flip the tstat fan button to "on" see if the fan runs then. Could be a bad tstat, could be a bad fan relay, could be a bad motor ...
