I have to manually switch the tstat to turn on the Emer heat, sometimes one strip comes on(most of the time,22A), sometimes both come on(44A). Also, Heat pump is set to come on 2 deg below setting, Aux 3 deg below setting. My understanding is if tstat is set at 70, when room is 68 heat pump will turn on, 67 aux will turn on then aux will turn off when 69 is again reached. This is not the case, aux is remaining on until 70. This is a new Robertshaw 9620. How do I check relay or sequencer for proper operation with multimeter.
thanks

Sounds normal to me.

If the aux is cutting on then the tstat is assuming the heat pump can't maintain. So if it got to 69 and cut your strips off then the heat pump would just cool the house down again and the strips would just be cycling on/off and never satisfy the tstat.

It's keeping the heat strips in until the tstat is satisfied. Once the system cuts off then it goes back to the the preset differentials.

I'm trying to figure out my extreme kwh usage. I'm using double+ what I used last year at this time. I have had 3 heating tech's out and nobody seems to be able to find anything. I have had my water heater checked out-OK. I have had a new meter installed by the power company. My guess is that something is happening randomly so it is hard for the heating guys to troubleshoot. It seemed like the unit was going into defrost too often. Also, sometimes when the unit kicked out of aux mode, one sometimes both heat strips would remain on. I have replaced the tstat, defrost board and sensor. I am waiting on a sequencer. I running out of alternatives. It seems cheaper to replace what I can myself rather than have a tech charge a service call with no result.

Sure the POCO isn't just estimating your bill?

Not sure where you live but it has been a little abnormally cold in most of the country.

You could also do some recording if you have an amprobe with a record function, or have someone record it for 24-48 hours or so to see what, when and how much.

The readings are actual, and I have verified by reading it my self. My highest usage last year was 1650 kwh. My last bill was 2800 kwh, we had a week thru Christmas that was 45-60deg. This month so far I am averaging 100+ kw/day. I purchased a monitor(T.E.D. : Electricity Monitor, Energy Monitor, Power Monitor (http://www.theenergydetective.com/index.html)) to both verify POCO accuracy and monitor circuits. After monitoring water heater, range, condenser & air handler, I believe the problem is in the air handler. The condenser is consistently 9A when running. I had one day the POCO meter showed 76 kwh total house usage and my other meter showed 12kwh-air handler only. Another day 147kwh total house; 95 of that was the air handler. My highest to lowest last year was 1650kwh/mo to 731 kwh/mo.
