My wife recently purchased a used lazy boy from a second hand store for me. The smoke odor is so bad it chokes me up and I just recently quit smoking. It is absolutely horrible. Welcome to the forum! You won't want to hear this, but it's gotten into the foam and inards, and the only way to get rid of it, is to have it reupholstered and have the foam and battings replaced.

Unless all sales are final, return the chair to the second hand store for a refund. As stated, there is no way to clean beneath the upholstery fabric.
