Hi, I am looking at buying a tankless water heater. Some of the water heaters I am looking at are brand names and some are not. Can I convert a NG tankless water heater to Lp with a conversion kit or do you have to buy the Water heater sold as a LPG unit. I thought you could change most Tankless water heaters over like you can change over a NG stove. Do most manufacturers offer conversions kits. Thanks, Scott

It is impossible to make a blanket statement about the convertibility between fuels as each manufacturer will have their own capabilities. There could even be differences among different models of the same manufacturer.

Best bet is to first select a manufacturer and then ask about the convertibility to different fuels.

A buddy of mine has a Rinnai tankless and I think I am fixing to do the same and I know that brand is NOT convertable.
I don't know about the others.

Any quality, name brand on-demand/tankless unit on the market today are not convertable due to complex variable stage gas valves, computer programming involving sensing gas pressures and sensor temps, among liability issues.

In short, they are sold dedicated for a specific gas.
