Hello Pros,
I would like buy a security system and go over with nextalarm or alarmrelay..etc.. for monitoring (not to ADP, slomin etc..).
I live in a brand new home about 3800 sq.ft and i would like to customize the security system littlebit. I got the quote from ADT around 4grand for that and that scared me and started looking the systems.
1.Basically i would like wireless system (preferably)
2. Arm all my windows/doors and disarm motions when i am at
home using the key pad..location should be near garage entrance.. It should not be Master key pad. i think this option is common where "home" or "home - instant" buttons on the key pad.
3. I do want Arm motions, glass break detecters in first floor, basement when i goto bed on the second floor using a second key pad at my bed room. ofcoarse i want to disarm the same from the same keypad. I am ok to arm/disarm each sensor by pressing zone # + code + arm/disarm.
At the most i might be putting two or three motions...
4. I would like to disarm a zone.. say front door(picking a fedex or newspaper) still all other windows/doors should be armed.. i would like to arm the zone again.
I am looking at visonic powermax plus system.. where it suited for me with additional 2 way wireless key pads,i can hide the master key pad.. but not sure for the remaining requirements where i would like arm/disarm addtional sensors.. i lost there with the powermax plus.
Please let me know if the powermax plus is capable or another wireless system out there? i looked at GE concord 4.. probably yes? but lot of installation..hardwire..need an installer for hard wiring.
Thanks

Well I had ADT as a safewatch caretaker system was in the house when I moved in. I was told by adt it was a nice setup as there were 2 wireless keypads, 2 wireless glassbreaks, 9 wireless windows and 3 wireless doors in addition to 2 wireless smokes..... hmmm I dont see wired in there anywhere...
the only thing that was wired were the following:
AC power transformer
Phone Jack
Internal Speaker
battery backup
so those units are NEEDED to be wired as they have to be...
anyway I called ADT and asked them what could they put in as I want a new system and dont have a contract with them. They recommended the concord 4 as it was cheap (well they would install it for me for free) but the guy said it would work with all of my current sensors.
the only thing that didnt work was the keypads.. and they are wireless.... I dont like the wired ones but that is how you program the alarm too......
they do sell a wireless keypad for the concord 4 that looks like a remote.. so I will get that eventually.... however just lost my job so not anytime soon...
in addition I have added a water sensor to my list and going to add another one...
the concord 4 was straight forward to configure and I really like it.... also since I have home automation going in the house... I got others to buy the alarm.. .one guy made a plugin to homeseer....
so from a webpage I can see the status of all my items, it reads the concord log and I can see every time doors were open and closed, etc.... alot of commercial features in this without the commercial price....
GEGuy has been great with all the help of setting up my alarm and superbus 2000 automation module.....
got my concord 4 off of ebay... did a best offer on a guy.... $85 each for the starter kit but bought 2 (one for me and a friend)
since I had all my sensors I didnt need any but my friend went on ebay and found 1 guy.. sent him a message and got a discount buy buying EVERYTHING from him.....
so I was $85 in on alarm, $25 on battery backup, $20 on x-10 transformer, $50 on automation module....
Thanks

I’d encourage you to look at FrontPointSecurity (FrontPoint Security Solutions (http://www.FrontPointSecurity.com)) – I have had great experiences with them, and they are far more reliable and cost-effective than ADT. To your points:
1- Their basic and interactive services are cellular. No doubt, part of the quote that you got from ADT includes all of the “hidden” fees associated with cellular upgrades and videocamera services. For $39.99 per month, you automatically get a home security system that communicates via cellular link (includes basic monitoring, fire/environmental/medical monitoring), interactive services, and videomonitoring. You’ll have to pay for the equipment – all GE Security – but there are no installation fees, and you can set it up in about a half hour.
2- The control panel is portable – so you can mount it on the wall (perhaps in your garage, as you indicate) or put it on a tabletop. Best of all, if you move – you can take the control panel and the equipment with you.
3- You can accomplish the objective of controlling the system in two places by using wireless remote touchpads (in your case, one for the bedroom), which are designed specifically for situations like this. Because there’s flexibility in terms of which sensors are included in each “armed” group, it’s unlikely that you would need to arm/disarm each individual sensor.
4- See point above…the system can be armed in “stay” or “away” mode, and you can leave the system continuously armed, with flexibility on grouping the sensors.
FrontPoint operates on GE Security systems – they are a preferred dealer for both GE and Alarm.com (another reason I selected them). A very cost-effective, highly reliable home monitoring system. As you can tell, I have had very positive experiences with FrontPoint – I am guessing you will, too – can’t hurt to check them out.

Hi,
Please let me know the cellular backups compatable to GE Concord 4. I know uplink diginet might be compatble but it doesn't send all the reports to monitoring station. I am looking to buy TG-4 (telguard) and not sure whether it is compatable to GE concord or not.. any other backup ?
Thanks

My advice would be to use an ADT reseller. Many times, those guys are so eager to make a sale, they will undercut ADT by a good amount by using their own installers. Alarming You (http://www.alarmingyou.com) is who i used but you can do a Google search and probably find dozens in your local area.

Alarm.com installed my Concord 4 system. I purchased the entire system back when Vonage had the $100 off coupon. New house was wired for security system. 3 doors, 2 motions, 1 basement smoke, all windows all hardwired. 2 other smokes wireless. I added 2 keyfobs. I have to say I love how the Alarm.com panel can be armed from my cellphone or any computer. LOTS of customization features on the website.
Installer did a great job and stayed late until my wife came home so to describe the system to both of us. I pay $37/month for the wireless monitoring. Nothing through cable lines, and I never had POTS installed when the new house was built.
Hope this helps!
