This fall I did some work in the attic and noticed how unbearably hot it got.

I have a gable vent on one end of the house, and several vents along the length of the house, somewhat near the ridgeline.

I would like to install a thermostat controlled attic fan to help draw air into the attic through soffeting and out through vents to hopefully reduce the amout of trapped heat up there.

With the vents near the roof line and relatively close together, I am worried that replacing a vent with an vent fan will simply force air out at that location, and draw air it in soley from a nearby vent, bypassing the rest of the hot attic air that I need to circulate out.

I like the idea of putting a fan behind the gable vent, but want to see what my options are from having a vented attic and looking to go to a power vented attic.

Hi Jared,

You'll want to make sure you pick the right size fan and have enough free inlet area to let fresh air into the attic.
