hi,
i am hanging a series of cabinets. they are 16 inches square, made of wood, open back with glass fronts. They are pretty light (5-10 lbs). I will be filling them with CDs. The total filled weight may approach 30-40 lbs total for each case. Anyway I'm trying to decide what anchors to use. Each case will be hung by two screws, one from each corner.

One problem is that the walls are in the basement so the foundation walls are very close behind the drywall. That is making it hard to use Mollys (the Mollys are too long!) Could I get away with plastic anchors or those EZ threads? Toggles are definitely out. Or perhaps a shorter Molly - but I can't tell how thick the drywall is.

The drywall should be attached to studs or furring strips. IMO securing the cabinets to the framing would be best.

depending upon the height these are placed at, can you consider a ledger board above or below the cabinets. At 16" wide, you should be able to hit at least one screw into a strap and stabilize with other drywall anchors. Or one long ledger anchored the the straps.

If not, I agree with Marksr that you should shoot for the wood and not trust even two sheetrock only anchors.
