Brief explanation of our setup..... It's a Rainsoft installed chemical injection system consisting of 2 pumps/tanks (1 with alum and 1 with caustic and bleach), a 120 gallon retention tank, a Hysulex filter, a Rainsoft softener and a large wholehouse filter right before the water enters the home.
This setup works great 80-90% of the year, but with large amounts of rain we have lots of iron in our well, it fluctuates almost weekly. I have to adjust the system manually and sometimes residual iron makes its way into the house and it's a pain to get rid of.
Have thought of incorporating some sort of iron probe/controller along with a pulse pump to adjust alum according to the incoming iron.
Have also thought of having a video inspection done and possibly having the entire well lined with PVC or something similar.
For the time being and to save $$$ I'm thinking of using a carbon filter like I've seen at Lowe's for $30-40 in our wholehouse filter housing. Are these effective for catching smaller amounts of iron? Thanks.
