We have a chemical injection system consisting of 2 pumps/tanks (1 for alum and 1 for caustic/bleach), a 120 gallon retention tank, a Hysulex carbon filter, a Rainsoft softener and a large wholehouse filter right before the water enters the home.
Our problem is fluctuating iron levels. I know there are some other really good systems out there, but from what I've been told/researched our system is really good for fluctuating iron levels. Problem is the usual baseline I have everything dialed in for is useless when we get ALOT of rain and the iron levels double or triple. Then I have to flush everything out and increase the alum manually to have just enough to pull the iron out.
Was considering some sort of iron probe/controller that would adjust the pump accordingly to what's coming through. I have 10 years in water treatment and know things like this exist and how to set them up. I'm also considering having the well video inspected and possibly having it lined with PVC or similar material and that could eliminate the iron issue altogether.
But for now I'm just trying to get rid of that little bit of residual iron that might pass through. Have thought of using one of those $30-40 carbon based filters to go in the wholehouse filter housing we already have, instead of the pleated paper type. Or another option is buying another filter for our refrigerator so at least the drinking water/ice is 100% iron free. Have any of you used the large wholehouse carbon filters with good success? Thanks in advance. Later!
