My Power 832 zone 8 is causing me troubles. I can't seem to clear it. It's supposed to be a 24-hour heat zone, but for some reason, I can't get it to work...here's what I've done.

I took the heat out of the equation and strapped a 5,600 ohm resistor across zone 8 at the panel. I tested the resister. It's just about 5,600 ohms.

I went to installer programming mode and (here's where I may be screwed up...) set section 108 to "00". Reading the instructions, I figured that was "null" zone (*8, inst code, 108, 00,#,#).

Zone 8 still won't set up, and can't be bypassed.:madhell:

I section 108 wrong? What else needs to be worked through?

I used to install and program security systems all the time. I am getting old, but not that old....

Help!

You are trying to set the zone type in the wrong location.

* 8 [installer code]

001 xx xx xx xx xx xx xx 14
"xx" being the correct zone types for zone 1-7

Ron, thank you so much. I have been scouring the Installation Manual for the PC5010 for hours and still don't see where it even vaguely references "section 001". What is section 108, then? Will it be reset properly when I reset the zone type for zone 8 in section 001? Should I reprogram it?

So, I reprogrammed it as you instructed. Remember, zone 8 is strapped at the panel with a 5,600 ohm resistor.

As soon as I exited programming mode, the fire alarm sounded. I cleared it by entering the disarm code. It then came up with zone 8 faulted.

I reprogrammed it with zone 8 as a null ("00") zone, and it sets up. I can at least leave town now, but I'm trying to figure out what's going on here. If I understand correctly, the fact that it set up as a null zone indicates the resistor is being detectd. I'll test that theory be pulling it and seeing if it faults on me.

Are there other sections I need to investigate?

I also seem to remember a programming guide that has ALL sections listed in numeric order with their meaning and values...perhaps that was the DSC online programmer. In any case, any resource you can point me to will help.

And thanks again for taking the time to help me!

If you have it set as a null zone, the presence of the resistor won't matter.

Often, zones set as fire zones go into alarm when you first exit programming. You just have to enter the *72 sensor reset command after disarming.

If you just have the resistor on the zone it should have cleared.
