I have an installation manual and have made some changes e.g resetting the zone types, delay times etc. and I thought I had it beat :coffee:. But now I notice that when I press and hold the STAY key to ARM the green and red light come on and there is no sound but it appears to give me a delay period of 40 seconds and then ARMS in the AWAY mode per the key pad . How can I reset the STAY key back to arm in the STAY mode. In the changes I have made I did reset my motion sensor to 00 zone type since I have 2 dogs that have access to the house when we are gone. I would have liked to have kept the motion sensor alive but couldn't figure a way to do that with out them setting off the alarm. I was going to just do a hard-wire reset by jumping the main control panel per the 5.28 instructions and then make the changes I know how to do but I thought I would reach out for some help first. I just know that if I reset I will probably mess something else up :wall:. If you are kind enough to answer please include the exact steps on how to reprogram e.g *8 code section# etc. I am French Canadian and this does not come easy but by reading some of the other request it looks like I am not alone.

Is there a way to search this site for similar problems or does one have to just read through the numerous pages

Thanks a BUNCH
Dave

You don't need to default, since you already have the installer code. Besides, defaulting the panel programming does not default the _keypad_ programming, which exists independently.

Go to program with *8 installer code
go to keypad programming: 000
1 03
# until you exit programming.

That resets the the first function key back to stay arming.

You _do_ know that the exit delay runs in both stay and away arming? There's no audible countdown in stay arming mode.

I review and performed your instructions which I found under 2.6 keypad assignment (it is so easy to drink when your led to the watering hole). Unfortunately it didn't work. I did it twice with the same results.
I entered *8 code the light went red and it flashed PROGRAM.
I entered 000 the green ready light came on the red arm light went off.
entered 1 then heard 5 quick beeps
entered 03 another 5 beeps
entered # the ready light turned OFF and the red ARM light came on
entered # again and the ready light came on the flashing PROGRAM went away and the clock came back.

Pressed the stay key and both green and red light came on and after the delay time passed (AND YES YOU ARE 100% CORRECT THERE IS NO COUNT DOWN TONE, which makes sense) and then the red ARM light remained on and instead of displaying STAY it came back with AWAY.

Any other suggestions or should I just hit it with a bigger hammer?

Thanks
Dave

Here's a real simple test. Other than the keypad display, it sounds like it's properly arming in stay mode. Are your motion detector(s) bypassing? If they are, then you are in stay mode.

The simple test won't work since I set my motion sensor zone type as 00 since I have dogs in the house. I did that because I found that in the away mode the motion detectors reactivate after the delay is finished and if the dogs trip the sensor it counts down the delay time and then sets off the alarm. The dogs do not like the alarm sound .

My stay mode was working in the beginning before I started doing some programming. It actually showed the stay on the display.

I have a question regarding the stay mode - If it is armed in the stay mode and I open my front door should the alarm go off immediately or would it just emit the entry delay tone like it does when you come in after it was armed in the away mode?

When I arm it in the so called stay mode and I open the door it does sound the entry delay tone. I would think that the stay armed mode would be immediate so it would wake you up if the front door should be breached. If it was just the entry delay tone and you were a sound sleeper you could wake up to someone pointing a 44 at your face.

In my reading I saw that if I arm using *9 it should take away that entry delay and sound the alarm immediately and that is what I am basically wanting at night.

Thanks again for your help.

I think I know what's going on. Since you have no zones programmed as stay/away zones, the system is defaulting to away mode because there's nothing to bypass.

To get instant mode, you have to arm it that way.

If you don't want to enter the keystrokes every time, you can map that function onto function key 4 if you aren't using the command 0utput command for resetting smokes.

You are correct . I set my motion sensor as zone type 05 and the stay arm worked.

It crossed my mind that my setting the motion sensor to 00 brought on the no stay display problem after I initially changed it. So I programmed it back to 04 interior zone as a test to see if the stay would return but it didn't work. That is were my test failed I didn't realize (UNTIL NOW) only 05 and 06 are stay/away zone types. It helps to read all the words, someday I will realize that, maybe its today.

When you mentioned I could map function key 4 (reset) to perform the *9 command I am thinking that is accomplished by the following:

*8 code 000 4 05 ## is this correct? If so could I not just reprogram function key 1 (stay) instead with 05 ?? and save function key 4 for smoke alarms if I hook them up some day?

If what I stated above is correct would I have to still enter my user code to arm after pressing the re-mapped function key or is there a way to map the user code into the function key?

I really appreciate your time and help.

Either option for the key programming will work. These are customizable systems. If it works for you, set it up that way.
