I have a rental with a Amana Gas Furnace. I got called today about "no heat". the furnace was cold.....turned out to be the draft inducer motor was stuck. I oiled it, spun it by hand for a while and it came back to life. it came up to speed and the furnace is heating again. I turned it off and on a couple of times and it the fan ran fine on its own.
Obviously I need a new motor. The big question is this:
Is it safe to let this motor run unattended until I can get a new motor? ie. will it heat up to a point of danger if it gets stuck again? I hope to get a new motor in the morning. thanks.

Before the furnace will fire up, the inducer motor must come up to speed and the furnace venting system must perform properly, which closes a pressure switch on the furnace which allows the main burner to turn on.
That's why the furnace wouldn't turn on.
So it sounds like the failure of the inducer motor has tested the integrity of the pressure switch. So it should be safe to operate the furnace, although the inducer motor might quit working again.
