I have an antique Swedish unfinished pine nightstand which my boyfriend recently left a cold beverage cup on. This left a rather large water stain which is white in color and I'm wondering if your suggestion of a mixture of baking soda and water is suitable for this type of damage.

First, if teh water stain is white, there probably is a finish of some kind, although it may not be dead smooth. 'Raw" wood furniture is very uncommon, especially an import.

However, to answer your question, yes, the baking soda and water combination should remove the white mark. You can then go over the piece with a suitable paste wax to prevent further occurences...
