My house was broken into over the holidays, so I went on the internet and purchased a system, thinking that it would be a fun challenge to install, and that by doing it myself I could do a lot of cool customizations that I wouldn't get from an ADT. Well, now I've been battling the DSC PC1616 and RFK5500 keypad for 2 weeks and am about completely bald. I ran all the wires, connected it up, but I can't get the darn thing to work. I know I'm probably missing one tiny little thing. Any help is appreciated.
Here's what I have:
No error messages are being displayed on the keypad. Green light and time are displayed.
I have EOL resistors jumping all of the hardwire zones 1-6, as I am only going to use wireless for a while.
I have set the date/time, I've programmed all the delay times, siren times, set partition and slot to 1,8. I did the module supervision reset [902] afterwards. I've turned off the phone monitoring. I set up a user code.
I've set up zones, setting the zone type [001] and setting zone attributes [107] to turn on wireless. I've enrolled the wireless device in zone 7, also tried 17, but when I go into [904] to test them, the red armed light flashes, which indicates it detected a wireless device that isn't enrolled, but I've enrolled it over and over.
Am I missing something?
Also, I've programmed the different function keys, but none of them do anything when I press them.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

if you have a 5500 keypad go into installer, 804, zone 07 and it will show the serial number if it's there. to erase a wireless zone, go into 804, the zone number, and 6 zero's. sounds like you've done everything right. just have to make sure the serial number is right. after you enroll it, take it off the housing so the tamper button sends a signal to the keypad. it will go into trouble. then you will know if it took.

Thanks for the reply, but I've already done this. I've gone into 804, zone 07, enrolled the ESN, 224606, #,#. But, it still doesn't work.
What may be a clue is that when I go into the 804, zone 07, it doesn't display an ESN, but as I type the ESN in, some numbers display along the top, but they aren't even close to the ESN digits I entered. As I type some ESN digits, the 1 will come on, then maybe the 1 and 2 at the same time, then nothing, then the 1 again. It's odd, I don't know what that is trying to tell me. Again, it does this when I am in 804, zone 07, while entering the 6 digit ESN.
I'm wondering if I missed a step somewhere along the line, but I've read a lot of posts, the reference manual, installation manual, instructions that came with Keypad and wireles devices, and I still can't figure out what I have wrong.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Ok, first off, I suspect that you are quoting the wrong keypad model. That sounds like a LCD 5501, which is actually a fixed english keypad that you actually have to treat like a LED keypad where programming is concerned.
What you are actually seeing is the binary display of the serial number digits, that's why they change as you enter them. Look at the translation matrix for LED keypads in the "how to program" section of your installer manual.
The row of numbers at the top line takes the place of the zone LEDs on the 5508 keypad.
For future reference
1 = 1
2 = 2
3 = 4
4 = 8
When you have 1 & 2 showing that's 1 + 2 = 3
To view the contents of a location you can step through it by pressing the panic keys.

I double checked, and you are right, the keypad model is RFK-5501. I changed the keypad to partition 1, slot 1 per the manual for an LED keypad. But it still doesn't work.
The hex translation is correct for the wireless sensor ESN that I put as Zone 07.. I still cannot figure out why it is not working. Is there a special step required to link the keypad wireless zones with the control panel? I have turned on wireless, option 8, in 107.
One thing that I don't understand is that in the keypad instructions in the section on Enrolling the keypad it says "The RFK55XX enrolls as two modules. Light 1 = keypad section, Light 17 = receiver section." This is all it says, no further information on these lights or sections, but I have not seen any of these lights come on when enrolling the keypad in [000].

That's in the module supervision (read the keypad commands section of your manual).
Seriously, you need to give the install manual for the panel _and_ the keypad a good read through.
If you have enrolled the transmitter, turned on the wireless attribute, set the zone type, and enabled that zone for the partition, then it should be working.

I've checked 903 and it shows 1 and 17 for the keypad and wireless receiver. So it should all be working, but it's not.
I'm going to reset the panel and keypad and start over.

It's worth a shot. You could easily have some obscure setting incorrectly set and not even know it.

I have it working!!!
Lessons learned:
When the ESN has letters in it, they need to be entered with a * before and after the corresponding number.

I was wondering about that, but you seemed pretty firm on the serial number you posted, so I didn't ask.

I found this thread through Google and have a similar problem.
I have a 1616 with an RFK5500. All I have is 1 wireless sensor for my door. That's it. I've set the time & date, I've disabled the phone, I've tested the wireless device and the keypad sees it, but I cannot figure out how to get it to enroll into the zone / partition / whatever it's called. I've followed the worksheets and everything, I just can't get it to work.
Whenever I try to arm it, the system fails to arm. It also always says the following zones are open - Front Door. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to fix this. I tried 999 to start all over, but it didn't work. The system still remembered the ESN for my door sensor, and also remembered the label of Front Door (which I can't even remember how I labeled it as such, I've been working on this for MONTHS!)
I have a feeling I'm very close to having this finally working, but just missing 1 or 2 steps.
Thanks

Zone Attributes:
turn on "8" = wireless zone for what ever zone you are using the transmitter on
