I have a Rheem 50-gal. propane water heater (VP-2 VH1-3" vent hood) which is not 3 years old yet. The pilot light automatically shuts off if I lose electric power for safety. I have had no power outages however the pilot light went out and I cannot get it to relight. I know the propane is getting there because I have a propane wall heater in the basement off that line also and it is working. The instructions say not to remove the inner door because it is sealed and most likely would have to be replaced. Why is that door sealed? Is there a danger with it not sealed? Any ideas on what is happening here?
