Hello,
I am trying to install pegboard in my kitchen. The only wall available backs up to the fireplace, which we do not use (it has been deemed unsafe until we make necessary improvements). I tried to drill holes for the anchors (the wall appears to be plaster) but the drill is hitting something. Any ideas on what this is? I will be so sad if I have to abandon my plan.
You should probably know that I'm new to all of this and while I like doing it myself, I don't know much.
Thanks,
Stacey

Sounds like you are hitting the backside of some part of the fireplace or chimney.I'm betting the plaster was either directly applied to that or to lathe that was directly against it.
Not sure what you can do.Unless you can locate mortar joints and drill into them for anchors which would be difficult you may not be able to do this.
If you plan to use the fireplace or repair it at some time drilling blindly into it probably isn't a good idea anyway.

Hi and thanks for your reply. I don't know enough about this stuff to locate mortar joints, I'm afraid. :( Where I'm trying to drill is higher than the actual firplace opening on the other side, so I'm probably hitting something associated with the chimney. The problem with the fireplace is the chimney lining. It's lined with clay tiles, which are cracked and shifted. We do not plan to have it repaired in the near future, but may have to when it comes time to sell the house. Thanks again!

How far into the wall are you going before contacting whatever you are contacting?
I have used these with great success and anything that is mounted on my walls gets them mainly for safety for the kids...they are not coming loose.
Avail at HD and I believe Lowes.
