View Full Version : Removing veneer?

I have acquired a rather beautiful victorian
gate legged table, with half it's oak veneer in tatters. As the underneath wood is good pine, I want to remove the veneer completely.
What remains is stubborn and is refusing to shift. Anything I can put on it to dissolve the adhesive and make the job easier? Many thanks!

Suzannah:

I assume you're aware you've already destroyed any value the piece may have had as an antique.

That being said, heated white vinegar works quite well for dissolving older adhesives. It's smelly, but it does the job. Try to work it under the edges and remove what lifts as you go along.

Thanks George. The veneer was damaged beyond repair in any case....
