How do I remove the oily finish left by cleaning old (1910?) doors with naphtha? Referred back to March 29 post regarding refinishing old woodwork. Started out by cleaning old doors with naphtha as suggested. Determined finish was varnish by using directions George gave - denatured alcohol then lacquer thinner. BUT - how do I get rid of the naphtha residue?

Normally, naphtha does not leave a residue - that's why I use it instead of paint thinner.

TSP (trisodium Phosphate) available from your paint store or home center, will should it up.
