I want to build a built-in desk/shelving unit along one wall of my son's bedroom. The problem is that the floor is carpeted and I am sure the carpet will need to be replaced before the shelves so I don't want to build over it. Can anyone advise me on how to best handle cutting back the carpet? (It is pretty cheap, crappy stuff that the previous owners put in to sell the house.)
