Is it *possible* for me to program a new wireless zone with a fixed keypad?

I've got an ADT Safewatch 2000 (Ademco 20se I believe) that I purchased a new 5881 wireless receiver for.

I am trying to install 2 new key fobs, but when I enter *56 zone programming mode I'm completely lost because the display doesn't prompt me.

Can someone help me with the proper keystrokes? I'd rather not have to go and purchase a new keypad for this if I don't have to.

Thanks,
Brien

If you were just trying to enroll a single, one zone device, I would say "go for it". Each keyfob needs 4 consecutive zones.

You can _try_ writing out the steps and following them exactly, but I wouldn't recommend it. I know how to do this, and I wouldn't try two keyfobs on a Vista 20se without a proper keypad.

Darn, I managed to screw up my existing zones just like that.

Bummer, guess I'll have to shell for a keypad.

Is there an RF enabled keypad that does alpha?

Thanks.

6160RF, but they are semi-pricey. Strike that:

If you already have a wireless receiver, you just need the keypad. Two wireless receivers can't live on the same ademco design system. If you mean the wireless alpha keypads, don't bother; you can't program with one.

Try to find a used 6160 or 6139. They don't have to be pretty, because you don't really need to leave the sucker connected. I have an old one with a set of alligator clip leads just for this situation.

If you are looking to simply upgrade, then go for it.
