Electronic Alarms and Home Security Devices - Trouble with 24h supervisory zone, help needed

I'm trying to setup my alarm (DSC Power632 - 1555mx) to have one zone that is purely for monitoring purposes. I have zone 6 setup to a switch on my garage door, and am looking for the alarm just to show me when it is open, but still be able to arm, and also not set the alarm off when that zone opens while the alarm is set.

It is a similar setup to this post: http://forum.doityourself.com/electronic-alarms-home-security-devices/212850-dsc-zone-prgramming-question.html, with the exception that I am using a zone from the control panel itself, and not off of the keypad.

I believe (per previous post, and others) that the zone for 24 hour supervisory will accomplish what I'm looking for. However, when I set the zone to be 24 hour supervisory, and then open the door, instead of seeing the LED for Zone 6 turn on, instead the amber SYSTEM LED turns on.

Performing a *2, shows that the trouble is Trouble 5 - Zone Fault, assigned to zone 6. Once I close the door, the trouble goes away.

Additionally, when I program the zone as an INSTANT or DELAY zone, everything seems to work properly. I'm using EOL resistors, which the manual indicates is what is required for 24 hour supervisory zones.

Any suggestions on how to help troubleshoot or resolve this problem?

The supervisory zone is working as designed. It was really meant for things like valve supervision switches.

With the system you have, what you are trying to do is really tough. DSC didn't put a "vent" zone type in the early power series panel design. Your best bet is to try the solution that the poster you referred to used.

Thanks RonFL. So, another question for you. In the other post I linked to above, you had replied talking about a 24-hour non-alarm.

1. Can you confirm that this will do what I'm looking for?

2. Do you know which model of DSC started to support the 24-hour non-alarm? I'm trying to figure out what the cost would be to upgrade.

Version 3.2 was when they introduced the 24 hour non alarm zone type for the 1555. Any of the more recent models have this zone type.
