About 2 days ago, I started hearing a high pitched whine coming from the washer. At first, I thought it might be a problem with the bearings, but now I'm leaning more toward a problem with the pump since the noise seems to increase in intensity as the pump runs. It only happens when the washer is draining. Is there anything that I can do to conclusively determine where it is coming from and then repair it instead of having to replace any parts?

all you have to do is remove the 2 clips that hold the pump to the motor and pull pump off, dont have to remove hoses. if the noise stops youll know the pump is bad

can lean washer against the wall to do this so that dont have to take the cabinet off

David,

Thanks for the info. I'll give that a try. Is it safe to assume that I can move the wash cycle to drain and then start the washer with the pump detached, and not cause any serious damage to the unit?

Noise is usually is in spin cycle, yes you can start machine with pump off. Might find something in pump but usually you have to replace it.

Just thought I'd drop a quick line to close out the thread. I took the pump off and found a bra wire inside. Nice. Fortunately, the impellars weren't damaged. Everything is working fine now. Thanks for your help.
