My mother passed away a few months ago & we are in the process of trying to sell her home. We need to do something with the cabinets as the finish is worn off in a few areas. We do not want to paint them, & replacing them is not in our budget. I think they are maple, but I'm not sure. What is the correct way to do this project? Thank you very much.

Welcome to the forums!

First you need to make sure they are clean. Then it might be as simple as applying a coat of polyurathane. Do they just have a clear finish? or have they been stained?

Wipe the worn areas with a wet thinner rag - if they look ok while wet with thinner, a fresh coat of poly should make them look nice again.
