I have a Kinetico K60 water softener. I want to remove the meter head and check everything over and clean it if necessary. I am a novice so I don't want to screw up my system. I haven't been able to find any step by step instructions on how to do this. Any info you guys could give me on this would be much appreciated. Thank you.

What do you mean you "have" one? Can you give a little history on it and info on the water? Does it work? Is it hooked up?

Yeah its hooked up and working. Water is good. Was looking just to maybe do a little preventitive maintenance. Don't exactly know how old it is, it came with the house when we bought it a couple years ago.

Taking one apart just to see how ticks may be opening a can of worms. Of course, it is not difficult to take one apart and put it back together, but if there is not a reason, I'd just let it go it's course.
Cleaning out the brine drum once in a while might do some good. Does it have a prefilter?

Yeah it does have a prefilter. It just hasn't had any maintenance since we've been here(not that i'm complaining) it seems like it doesn't cycle as often and i just wanted to take the meter head out see if the guts needed to be cleaned or something. Just lookin for a project I guess. Beer 4U2

The best advice with those units is use quality salt and maintain filter changes. If it is working, let sleeping dogs lie.
Your reduction in salt should be because you have had a reduction in water use and since it is an immediate demand unit, it will regenerate at different times of day.
I take it the lens on top is fairly clear, right, right. Not rusty or anything?

Looks a little rusty, but not that bad.

I have this same unit. It seems to be working ok, but leaks around the joints in the valve head. Enough to create a small puddle eventually. Id like to re do the O-rings or what ever seals the head. I have completely rebuilt a Fleck before, so I have some experience, but no info on this Kinetico. Suggestions?

How old is your unit. Sometimes, taking it apart and aplying a little silicone will solve the problem. Which levels is it leaking? Do you notice it leaking during any particular stage (service or backwashing)?

Well, the warranty says 6/2001 from the previous house owner.
(out of the 7 year warranty)
The leaks are at the tank joint and 1st joint above tank.
I thought there might be an o-ring kit available.
BTW if I was to install a cartridge filter, should it go before or after the softener? (I have non-chlorine community water system)
I'm not sure about cycle leak sensitivity.

A sediment filter would go before the softener. Make sure there is a shut off before and after the filter.

Thanks AndyC. Is there a sequence to dissassembly for the Kinetico Head? Anything I should look out for?
