Carpentry and Woodworking - Floating Shelves

I would like to install several floating shelves on one bedroom wall. I have measured the wall and position in which I want the shelves mounted but beyond that I am stuck. Can one buy the brackets and shelving readily (like local home improvement stores) and, if so, where? Also would this type of shelving be strong enough to hold a small television set?
Any advice will be very helpful! Thanks!!

HD & Lowe's carry the brackets; all you do is attach them to the wall and insert the shelf. I think the tv would have to be pretty small and the brackets would have to be anchored into the studs vice just the drywall with anchors.

Those floating shelf brackets are a nice concept for decorators but I'd really be cautious about putting a shelf with a TV on them. Sure, you can anchor them to a stud but you're going to have a lot of leverage being placed on them by the TV sticking out a foot or so from the wall.

If I were doing it, I'd buy or make some decorative wood brackets that will run down the wall and under the shelf, like a metal "L" bracket would, only wood. It'll give you more grip on the stud than just the little hidden shelf bracket.
