Carpentry and Woodworking - Fixing scratches in wood cabinets

Our dog has just scratched two of our brand new bathroom cabinets. The scratches are deep enough that you can see the wood underneath. The cabinets are a light cherry and I'm not sure what the finish is, but I know when we moved in the construction manager advised us to use oil once a year to keep the finish new-looking. Can someone please tell me how to fix this?

There are furniture touch up sticks available that look like crayon. You can also use cordovan shoe polish. Old English furniture oil.

Take a pecan meat and scrub it across the scratches. It will tend to swell the wood slightly (may not be 100%) and will cause the underlying stain to bleed to the area, alleviating the need for stain matching.:thinker:

There is what is known as an Almond Stick which is good.The crayons are ok but if the scratch doesn't have any significant depth the tough up pens are better.they are like a magic marker for stain.Old English Scratch Cover is good as well and comes in dark and light shades.

Try placing a wet face cloth over the scratch and apply light pressure to it with a hot steam Iron for a few minutes (2-3). this will cause the wood to swell slightly and rais the grain back into possition. do it a little at a time so as not to distort the grain to much. then lightly rub the area with mineral spirits to draw the stain from the wood back into the repair area. the scratches will fade with a little work then just rub the area with a finishing oil (such as tongue oil) to blend the area and give it a sheen.
