Hi there, want to upgrade to HDTV, thinking plasma. Problem is that the 'new' has to replace the 'old'. so the new TV has to fit into an old armoire which is limited to a width of 35 5/8".

Want to max TV screen size that will fit the 35 5/8" width. Upside is that there is no must have brand.

Appreciate the help.

Ha! Just went through this, exactly, but for LCD sets!

Best fit is a Sharp LC37D64U, actual width (measured) is 35 3/8".

Amazon.com: Sharp Aquos LC37D64U 37-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV: Electronics (http://www.amazon.com/Sharp-Aquos-LC37D64U-37-Inch-1080p/dp/B001338KV4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1231385641&sr=8-1#moreAboutThisProduct)

The Sharp has a thin bezel, almost every other 37" set is 36" wide or wider, a few of the Sonys are 35 5/8".

Here's what I ended up doing:
