I have 2 doors in the bottom floor, ground level,
i want to insulate them ,one is metal and the other wood.
I want to use some flexible bubble type or similar ,I will tape them on the doors and seal as best I can.
I saw some stuff at Lowes that was stupidly overpriced and only r4 for
4 by 10 ft roll.
Anyone suggest a good insul for this purpose..???I want r 13 min.

you will not be able to get to r13 with out making them almost unusable. foam board is the only thing that will get you there and it would take at least 2 in of that. even then you probably will need new weather stripping, maybe even frames to stop the cold air leaks around them.

the only difference between men and boys is the price of their toys

Here's what I did with a few pictures and a write up to insulate an attic door, but I would think the same idea would be right for insulating a basement door.

After I finished this project. I think I found a better rigid foam from Dow that does not need to have a thermal barrier to meet code. It's called Thermax and I think the "Heavy Duty" variety is the one that doesn't need to be covered. Here's a link to Thermax (http://building.dow.com/na/en/products/insulation/rigidfoam.htm#Building2).

Of course HD only carries the Tuff-R stuff, so I'm not sure where you'd get it.--Peter
