This may be a silly question from a home improvement enthusiast, but one I could use some help with.

My 46 year old house has a telephone box next to an outlet in the MBR with an AC adapter attached. I assume this is a junction box. The AC adapter is not plugged in and yet I have phone service in the house. Any issues with disconnecting the wires and replacing the box with a new junction box, and any issues with eliminating the AC adapter (don't know what purpose it originally served)?

There is a similar device in the second bedroom but this one is round and does not have an AC adapter attached.

Thanks,

Dan

It was probably originally used for a "Princess Phone", which required power to light its lights. The "Line 1" pair (green & red) is a standard telephone line, while the yellow & black are wired to the power supply. If you want to install a second phone line in the future, you'll have to rewire the jack to get rid of the power supply because Line 2 will use the yellow & black wires.

The second bedroom's jack didn't need the power supply since it was already connected to the yellow & black from the MBR.

For a single-line system, only the green & red wires are used.
