Ok I live in S E Wisconsin where the water is hard and full of iron. I have a well that is shared with 3 other houses. I have the pressure tank in my house. Just to let you know how often the pump is working. I need to replace my current softner with a new one. What is the best kind to get. It is a house of 2.

I never really understand when someone says "best". You have to be a little more definitive than that. It's just that I find it interesting that when someone says they want the best, they often get the worst.
Does the best mean the cheapest price? Most efficient? Longest warranty? Least maintenance? Endless service? Easiest to repair? What if the best cost three times as much as an el cheapo?
It's like asking, what is the best car? Since "best" is a subjective term, one man's attic may be another's dungeon.
Before any good advice can be given, let us have more detail on your water quality.
