Hi,
I have a GE Triton Dishwasher about 8 years old. For the first time, tonight noticed fumes coming out of the vent on the door during the drying cycle. No, this was not just steam escaping but had a distinct smell of burnt insulation and lasted for over 15 minutes. Also checked to make sure there was no plastic spoon or some such thing fallen on the floor and being burnt by the heating coils. THis was clearly something burning inside the door. As an FYI, the white sealant ribbon that goes around the inside of the dishwasher door has been falling apart for a while but the dishwasher performance has been acceptable overall. I wonder if steam has started to get into the door and burn some of the heat insulation or worse electrical wiring? I have now unplugged the dishwasher and am ready to get a new one. But wanted to post here to request some guidance on whether the dishwasher is salvageable or is it destined for the junkyard? ANy pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Well, you can take the door apart and see if something burned up inside the door. Will the DW run at all? It's probably time to go shopping.
