Walls and Ceilings - Filling in grooves (wood panels) with spackling

I've decided to paint the walls in my den. They're ugly, dark wood paneling. I wanted to fill in the grooves with spackling as well, but it was taking me forever.

Now, I'm sure a lot of people have thought of this long before I did, but as I was wandering down the caulking aisle at Lowe's today (looking for something else) I got the idea... use cake-decorating bags to fill in the grooves! I have TONS of cake decorating stuff, so I decided to give it a try... and it works! And it goes rather quickly! Just "pipe" a bead of spackling down the groove, then go back and smooth it down with the putty knife. I hope this method has a little less waste, too (it "bleeds" a little bit onto either side, which is okay). I'll wait for it to dry and see if I can add a second coat this evening. And I'm going to toss out the decorating tip and coupler when I'm done, or save them for later spackling use. I have plenty left over for cake decorating. :)
