Our liftmaster garage door opens partially (about half) when we use the wall switch but it opens completely from the remote. If we hold the wall switch until the door fully opens, it works We've always been able to just tap the switch and the door would open. Any ideas as to what is causing this?

Not sure why one device works better than the other, But I would guess that you need to adjust the up force adjustment. And check the manual door operation while you are at it. Disconnect the opener, operate the door manually. It should go up/down with about equal force with no binds/catches, and if you stop in mid-travel it should stay. If it does not, lubrication of rollers, hinges, and readjustment of the springs may be needed.

Before you do anything else remove the switch from the wall and look to see if you have a loose wire or a possibly a cold solder joint on the small circuit board. I had a similar problem and just replaced the switch for a couple of dollars since it was so old. If the remote works and the switch doesn't, the odds are good that it is the switch itself.

Exactly as Bill said, the other option could be that there is a broken spring or something else causing a problem.... something else to look for.

And remember you can always purchase a cheap doorbell to work the same as the switch that is in there.
